TV Antenna Pre-Amplifier Comparison Chart

Below is a reference chart for TV Antenna Pre-amplifiers. They are listed according to the type of input, then sorted by VHF gain. Remember, it is not always necessary to have the highest gain pre-amplifier available - it is better to have the correct gain for your transmission levels and TV antenna model.

Please note that if you are using a 300 Ohm input pre-amplifier, it is feasible to remove the balun (pigtail / transformer) from the antenna and connect the 300 Ohm lead directly to the pre-amplifier. This technique would eliminate insertion loss due to the balun connection. Be sure to check the input connection type for each pre-amplifier. Some have a 300 Ohm input and other have a 75 Ohm type input. (See picture to right highlighting 300 Ohm and 75 Ohm connections)

It is best to use high quality compression fitted coax cables in all multiswitch installations to minimize insertion loss and prevent unwanted equipment damage from moisture.
