REMOTE CONTROL TIPS

TV INPUT - Changes the “source” (HR-20, DVR, etc.) signal to watch on your TV

FORMAT - Cycles through HD resolution and screen format options

MODE SLIDE SWITCH - Changes remote to control other equipment, for example, a DVD

PWR - Power turns your HR-20 Plus HD DVR or other equipment on and off, as selected with MODE switch

TV POWER ON OFF - Turns your TV and HR-20 Plus HD DVR on and off

 

Cruise Controls (formerly know as Trick Play)

■ STOP - In recorded TV, stops playback and displays the My Playlist tab in the Playlist

O REPLAY - Jumps back 6 seconds and plays video from that location

BEGIN - Press and hold for 3 seconds to jump to the beginning of the program (or previous bookmark if set)

REWIND - Press up to 3 times to increase speed

Undocumented! - SKIP - Press and hold to back up to previous tick mark (usually 15 or 30 minutes).

ll PAUSE - Pauses curent video. Press PAUSE in the GUIDE or LIST to freeze the Picture in List.

| ADVANCE - (Slip) Jumps ahead in a recording - 30 second Slip in 1½ seconds. Press up to 20 times in a row!

END - Press and hold for 3 seconds to jump to end of program (or next bookmark if set)

PLAY - Play/Pause current video;

SLOW - Press and hold for slow motion (like the old SLOW motion button)

® RECORD - Records current program. Press RECORD twice to record this program and future shows. (Series Link)

FFWD - Fast Forward: 5, 12, 20, or 90 times faster than normal play speed! Plus Skip is 300 times normal speed!

Undocumented! - SKIP - Press and hold to go forward to next tick mark (usually 15 or 30 minutes).

 

Guide Buttons

GUIDE - Press once to choose a filter and twice to see the onscreen program Guide.

ACTIVE - Access the Active™ Channel - local weather and more!

LIST - Displays My Playlist (Also known as "My Video on Demand" or "Now Playing List")

EXIT - Exits menu & returns to last channel. Also removes the time bar from the screen! Like old Live TV button.

 

???? ARROWS - Move highlight to items in whatever direction needed

SELECT - Selects the highlighted item

 

BACK - Takes you to the screen you visited previously

MENU - Displays Quick Menu of settings and services (previously know as TiVo Button & TiVo Central)

INFO - Displays information about a program (formerly known as Display button)

 

RED - In Guide, jumps 12 hours back; other functions vary - look for onscreen hints

GREEN - In Guide, jumps 12 hours forward; other functions vary - look for hints onscreen

YELLOW - fullscreen TV, cycles through alternate audio tracks; other functions vary - look for onscreen hints

BLUE - during live TV, displays the Mini Guide; other functions vary, in My Playlist marks program to be saved

 

Volume & Channel

+ VOL - Raises or lowers volume

CHAN (PAGE) - In live TV, changes channel up or down. In a menu, such as the Guide, pages up or down

MUTE - Turns sound volume on/off

PREV - Tunes to last channel viewed (formerly known as Jump)

 

NUMBER KEYS - Tune to a channel directly; also input numbers when needed in onscreen menus;

– DASH - Press twice to delete a show in your My Playlist list. (formerly known as Clear button)

ENTER - Activates channel number entries quickly

SETUP TIPS

Undocumented! - SURGE SUPPRESSORS & UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

Important! Use a UPS with surge suppression for all PCs, TVs, DVRs, DVDs, and other electronics.

Protects the HR-20 phone line. Lightning often comes through phone lines.

Without a UPS, a quick power dip can corrupt a recording, lockup the HR-20, or even destroy the unit.

Make sure your Uninterruptible Power Supply (battery-backup) is rated for at least:

500 or more Joules (this is the amount of surge power it can absorb)

500 or more V-A (this will determine how long the battery can keep providing power)

 

DOLBY® SOUND (Also known as Surround Sound or "5 dot 1")

By default, your Dolby® Digital 5.1 Surround Sound is turned OFF!

Connect the Digital Audio Optical Output for 5.1 Dolby® to your Dolby® 5.1 compatible receiver

To turn Surround Sound ON:

Press MENU then Click Audio Options and then click Edit Settings

Press the GREEN button to go to the Dolby Digital tab

Click Dolby ON

Verify that you have 5.1: Tune to channel HDNet 79. It always broadcasts in 5.1. Not all channels do.

If the sound and picture are out of synch, try this: Press LIST then EXIT or try changing channels.

 

PARENTAL CONTROLS (Previously known as Locks and Limits)

To setup Parental Controls Ratings, block channels, limit spending, or hours per day:

Press MENU .

Press CHAN twice to page to the last item

Click Parental Controls and then click Edit Settings

To unlock all Parental Controls for the next four hours (perfect while you watch after the kids are in bed)

Press MENU .

Click Parental Controls and then click Unlock 4 Hours

 

DISPLAY OPTIONS

Press MENU , click Help & Settings Click Setup Click Display and then choose your settings:

NATIVE - ON - automatically switches between HD (high def) and standard but slows response.

BANNER TIME - 2, 4, or 6 second display of menus & time bar. See Secret Buttons below.

Undocumented! - CLOSED CAPTIONING - Press the GREEN button and then select On/Off

RESOLUTION – Press the GREEN button for Resolutions. Set the TV’s resolutions that your TV can display.

FORMAT - Cycles through HD resolution and screen format options that are available

 

SETUP YOUR OWN CUSTOM CHANNELS LIST

(This way you do not have to go through channels your don’t receive or like.)

Press MENU , then click Favorites Edit Settings

Press SELECT to choose either the Custom 1 or Custom 2 channels list to customize

Press SELECT for each channel you want to include

Press the GREEN Button to Name your List then click Save

Click your Custom Channel list to make it the default

 

SETUP YOUR REMOTE CONTROL

Press MENU , then click Help & Settings Settings Remote. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Your DirecTV remote can also control your TV, Stereo Receiver, and DVD player.

RECORDING TIPS!

 

SEARCH TIPS - To find programs, start in the Guide: Press GUIDE twice.

Jump 12 hours - Press the RED or GREEN buttons to jump 12 hours ahead or back.

Search by channel

Use the ?? ARROW keys to find the channel and then Press ? LEFT ARROW to select the channel label

Press INFO for a listing of the next 14 days for this channel!

Search by Title or Channel

Press MENU and Click Search Title or Channel

Search by date and time

Press MENU and Click Date/Time

 

AUTORECORD - (a.k.a. WISHLISTS - Record all broadcasts on all channels)

Press MENU and Click Search & select Person or Keyword. Click Autorecord. Note the ® in the Guide.

 

RECORD - Press ® RECORD - One touch record - to record a show

SERIES LINK - Press ® RECORD twice - to record this program and future episodes (formerly "Season Pass")

Press ® RECORD three times - to not record

To control how a future show in your To Do list is recorded:

Press LIST . then Press the YELLOW button and then SELECT the program

Click Record - Choose to pad (record a little extra ) before or after the show and click Record.

To record upcoming shows in the series (Season Pass), press the GREEN button & Click Record Series.

SUSPEND - You can’t suspend recording but you can set First Run Only and to only save 1 Episode

MANUAL RECORD - Press LIST .then Press the YELLOW button and Click Scheduler Manual.

Use: When shows overlap (for instance one programs starts at 8:59 and another at 9:00)

When you want to only record one showing a day (say of a series or news program)

 

My Playlist - is a list of what shows you have recorded (formerly called "Now Playing List")

Press LIST .to see your recorded shows in My Playlist.

Unwatched programs are white, watched programs are grey, grouped programs are in italics.

Use the ?? ARROW keys to find a show. Press SELECT to choose it and then Click Play

Press INFO to see information about a program. You can also see More Info.

To change the order in which your shows are displayed

Press MENU then click List By to list your recordings by Title, Date, Channel, etc. or open all Groups.

Press MENU then click Mark & Delete to delete several recorded shows at once

Undocumented! - Press BACK twice to go where you left off in. Press LIST for the first entry.

Undocumented! WHERE AM I? - Press Play to see the time bar. Press EXIT - to clear the time bar.

 

TO DO LIST - To see your To Do List of what you have scheduled to record:

Press LIST and then press the YELLOW button

 

RECORD DEFAULTS

To change Record Defaults, you need to be recording a show (Click the ® RECORD button)

Press LIST .then the YELLOW button and highlight the show

Click Recording and then press MENU .

Click Recording Defaults and then set your default recording settings: Start Early, Stop Later,

Episode Type: First Run, Repeat, Both, Keep at most: 1,2,3,4,5 or All Episodes

 

CHECK LIVE TV WHILE WATCHING A RECORDING

While playing a recorded show: Press ■ STOP, then EXIT to see up to the last 90 minutes of live TV.

To go back where you left off in the recording: Press BACK then Click Play.

 

DELETE A SHOW

Press LIST .to see your My Playlist and then press the ?? ARROW keys to highlight a show to delete

Press MENU then Click Delete -or- Press – DASH twice to delete

Click Mark & Delete to delete several recorded shows at once

MORE POWER!

 

SECRET BUTTONS - on your remote control

SLOW - Press and hold PLAY to start slow motion mode

FRAME - Press ll PAUSE and then - FFWD to go forward one frame at a time

FRAME - Press ll PAUSE and then - REWIND to go back one frame at a time

EXIT - Clears menus and removes the time bar from the lower portion of your screen!

BEGIN - Press and hold O REPLAY for 3 seconds to jump to the beginning of the program

Undocumented! - SKIP - Press and hold FFWD to jump to next tick mark (usually 15 or 30 minutes).

Undocumented! - SKIP - Press and hold REWIND to go back to previous tick mark.

END - Press and hold | ADVANCE for 3 seconds to jump to end of program (or next bookmark if set)

GUIDE - Press once to choose a filter and twice to see the onscreen program Guide.

ll - Also freezes the Picture in List in Guide or My Playlist so that your show pauses until you are ready.

Undocumented! - Play is also the WHERE AM I button (Time Bar). Press EXIT - to clear the time bar.

 

INTERACTIVE CONTENT - You can interactively watch up to 8 channels at once!

From the Guide or Mini Guide, choose a MIX Channel (others may be added):

NEWSMIX: 102 SPORTSMIX: 104 KIDSMIX: 111.

Use the ???? ARROW keys to highlight which audio you want to hear

Press SELECT to go to a channel and then Press PREV to go back to the MIX Channel

 

Undocumented! - WHAT'S HOT - Is real-time, interactive ratings. Choose from the hottest 50 shows at this instant!

Click the BLUE button, then 1 0 4 then Click ENTER to go to SPORTSMIX

Use the ?? ARROW keys to move through Top 10 Lists: Your Zone, Nation, Movies, Sports, and Kids.

Use the ?? ARROW keys to move down to a program you want to watch.

Press SELECT
