Solid Signal  Identifying Your DIRECTV Dish Model Type

Identifying Your DIRECTV Dish Model Type

If you’ve recently replaced your dish, you might need to check or change the satellite dish type. Our guide to DIRECTV dish types can help you find the right choice just by looking at the DIRECTV satellite dish you have on the roof. These are the proper dish types for the different dishes used today. There are many other choices; for a complete list click on the link at the bottom of this page.

DIRECTV 18 Inch Round Satellite Dish

Buy this dish now!

This is the standard 18-inch dish used for DIRECTV service. It´s only used for standard-definition. If you have this dish type, choose:

01: Round (18”)

DIRECTV 18x20 Inch 3-LNB Satellite Dish

This dish is no longer used for new DIRECTV installations but will still work for standard-definition service. If you have this dish and do not wish to replace it, choose:

02: 3-LNB (18”x20”)

DIRECTV Slimline-3 Satellite Dish

Buy the SWM version!

Buy the non-SWM version!

This is the Slimline-3 dish. It is used for most new installations. You´ll know it is a Slimline-3 because of the fist-shaped LNB at the end of the arm on the front of the dish. If you have this dish, check to see if there is one wire or four coming out of it. If there is one wire, choose:

17: Slimline-3S (SWM)

If there are four wires coming out, choose:

03:Slimline-3

DIRECTV Slimline-5 Satellite Dish

Buy the SWM version!

Buy the non-SWM version!

This is the Slimline-5 dish. You´ll know it is a Slimline-5 because the LNB at the end of the arm on the front of the dish is very wide and has three white plastic caps.. If you have this dish, check to see if there is one wire or four coming out of it. If there is one wire, choose:

18: Slimline-5S (SWM)

If there are four wires coming out, choose:

04-Slimline-5

DIRECTV SWM-13 LNB

The new SWM-13 LNB (front part of dish shown) is squarer than the Slimline-3 LNB. If you have this LNB attached to your Slimline dish, choose:

19: Slimline-3DS (DSWM)

If you are using a dish with built-in SWM technology you must choose the proper option from the menu. If you are converting to SWM technology, reboot the receiver and it should properly detect the SWM and set the switch type to “01:SWM.” If you are using an external SWM or do not know whether or not you have a built-in SWM, choose the option for without built-in SWM.
