Works as advertised. Helps to lock in weaker stations. InTheFringe - Sturgeon Bay, WI - 8/12/2013 8:04:40 AM Our home is located "in the fringe", about 60 miles North of the Green Bay, Wisconsin transmitters. We use a high gain UHF antenna but it is mounted low, at about 20 feet above ground. Our reception was good until the leaves popped out on some trees located about 100 feet uphill from the antenna. Our reception was blocked by these trees on three channels. The channels affected were fading into pixels, at times watchable, at times not. I decided to try this preamp instead of the expense of erecting a tower (to get above the tree line). I knew that a preamp will not create miracles by making a solid signal appear where there is none. Getting reception with a low mounted antenna through a line of trees is tough.
The preamp did make quite a difference, though. Channels that were breaking up into pixels are now solid. One channel that was never viewable is now coming in at least 60 per cent of the time. Quite the improvement! We were able to watch the pre-season football game on our local NBC 26 solid where before it would be breaking up into pixels at least half the time. I went into the menu of the TV and found signal strengths of 95-100 where I used to have 23-30. Signal to noise is good and hovers around 17-23dB. I have three high-power FM broadcasters in the area and am glad that this preamp has an FM trap build in. The FM's are located about 8 miles away on a tall bluff off the side of my antenna.
Bottom line: The preamp does what it is suppose to do, it cleaned up marginal signals into usable signals. It seems immune to the strong FM Broadcast stations located nearby. It saved me the expense of moving the antenna to a taller location.
Great addition to my antenna! Allen R. - Roseboro, NC - 5/24/2013 8:04:58 PM My antenna, the Winegard HD8200U Heavy Duty Platinum VHF/UHF/FM HDTV Antenna done a great job by itself picking up 41 channels but when I added this preamp, I started getting around 19 more channels I didn't get before. Now I get approximately 60 channels total where I live here in NC. I even pick up stations in Myrtle Beach and Florence, SC. now which is over 100 miles away! Love it! ?

Buy this cure your reception headaches vwvanman - outside St Loui, outside St Loui - 3/28/2013 This amp helped me to receive signals much more reliably given that I live about 70 miles straight line from most of the transmitters that I can receive.Even with the best antenna that I could get the reception was still in the 10-30% signal strength area.No more hoping that the weather is right or that I have to switch the feed from one tv to the other because there isnt enough signal to p
Works great! aaroncgi - Bonney Lake, ney Lake WA - 3/28/2013 Were using this preamplifier with a ChannelMaster 4228 (original) antenna and its a great combination. By distance measurements alone this preamp should be too much for our location and Solid Signal specifically says do not use the high gain models less than 35 miles from the transmitters. We are between 23 and 31 miles. However it works perfect in our location because we do not have line of

Winegard AP8275 cures weak TV reception Pathfinder Vill - Hinckley, ey MN - 3/28/2013 Digital broadcast TV signals typically start fading after perhaps 25 -35 miles from transmitter.I have the Winegard AP-8275 pre-amp powering a long range Winegard HD7698P antenna at a location 70 miles from the signal source (transmitters) and receive 25 stations.Without the AP-8275 I cannot receive any stations!I have a half dozen friends at this remote location to whom I have recommended
The added bump I needed SMack - Indiana, PA - 9/20/2012 I purchased a Winegard HD8200U Heavy Duty Platinum VHF/UHF/FM HDTV Antenna (HD-8200U) and it wasnt working as well as my old antenna with a pre-amp. I oredered this and it brings in all the stations without even turning the antenna.Very happy with both the antenna rotor and this pre-amp.
A update of prior review Handy Andy - Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore - 9/3/2012 I reviewed this item yesterday. After having one fail and another not work out of the box I decided to investigate again not wanting to return it for no reason. On testing voltages I got the rated voltage at the preamp but the amp would not turn on.After testing both preamps on the ground on a single tv I got them to turn on.Further investigation led me to a bad cable between the power s

Winegard AP8275 Pat - Northern Alabam, Northern Alabam - 3/28/2013 This is my third Winegard antenna preamp. One of the other two appears to have failed after 1 year [...]. This amp will replace that one. When working these amps do a great job of pulling in signals from 40-50 miles away at only 30 off the ground.
Well worth the money Ralph - Ontario Canada, Ontario Canada - 3/28/2013 This was a great addition to my antenna. I was tired of paying for sat so I went back to an antenna. Reception was Ok but not great. After installing the amp I was impressed. Much better reception and even picked up a few channesls I didnt have before.
The Stations are Back Jeffrey - Mid-Missouri, Mid-Missouri - 11/19/2012 Placed out in the country where TVFool indicates 2Edge reception for all channels. The previous preamp appeared to have failed giving limited reception with antenna only. After initial installation there was no change in reception. After further thought and contemplation of other reviews listed here I went into town and got a new 50 length of RG-6 and replaced the downlead coming from the p

Check distance from station transmitter Finn - Stone Lake, e Lake WI - 3/28/2013 Determine the distance from the nearest VHF station transmitter first. This Winegard pre-amp had very disappointing minimal results with boosting the signal reception from the nearest tower which is 70 miles away. Prior to purchasing this product I contacted the TV station and got their specific technical & hardware requirements - which exactly matches this pre-amp.After installation and a lo
