If you live in Grand Rapids, then you reside in West Michigan’s biggest city.  Native Americans were there first people to call these lands home, and they did so for thousands of years.  They were followed by European fur traders and missionaries, who settled what is now Grand Rapids sometime during the 19th century.  During its rich economic history, Gypsum mining and furniture making became two of the city’s top economies, the latter earning Grand Rapids the nickname of “Furniture City.”  Today, Grand Rapids is one of Michigan’s finest cities, known for its diverse economy, beautiful and historic neighborhoods, and flourishing arts, music, and cultural activities.  It’s many attractions make it a destination city for tourists.

Kalamazoo is a unique and interesting town with a rather unique and interesting name.  It’s Native American in origin, the Potawatomi language specifically.  There is some debate as to its meaning, but most sources suggest it has to do with water and/or the river that runs through the area.  Throughout its history and today, manufacturing drives Kalamazoo’s economy.  This sector is joined by a variety of employers in the life sciences, industrial design, and research and economic development fields.  Some successful breweries and distilleries also add to the local flavor, economic and otherwise.  Arts and culture are also very strong in this city, which is home to animation and music festivals, museums, local and college sports, and so much more.

Like other areas of West Michigan, Native Americans were the first people to live on the lands of what became Battle Creek, Michigan.  European settlers who moved to the area named it “Battle Creek” due to the river than runs through it and the belief that a Native American battle took place near there.  Today, Battle Creek is perhaps best known for its biggest employer, cereal-maker Kellogg.  Other major employees include Denso, Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center, and many more companies, colleges, and businesses.  Like its neighbors in West Michigan, Battle Creek also has an exciting arts, music, and cultural opportunities for locals and tourists alike.

Sports in Grand Rapids

Cutting the cord limits the amount of professional sports you can watch on TV.  This is due to agreements between the various teams and TV networks.  While this presents a challenge, we urge you not to give up on cutting the cord just yet!  Our Cord Cutter's Sports Guide helps you watch all your favorite pro sports teams.

Your TV Antenna in Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek

To cut the cord, you need a TV antenna. But you can’t just buy any antenna and get the best over-the-air TV reception.  No two TV antennas are the same, and no two over-the-air viewing experiences are the same.  If you’re considering cutting the cord, keep these things in mind:

  • How far you live from your local TV transmitter locations.
  • The number of buildings, trees, and other obstructions between your home and the broadcast towers.
  • Which channels are your favorites?  This is important when choosing a VHF, UHF, or VHF/UHF antenna..

Why are these factors important?  Each one can affect the quality of your OTA TV reception and the number of TV programs you receive.  We can help you determine whether you need an indoor TV antenna or one of three types of outdoor TV antennas.  To help you better understand the process, we’ve compiled this handy guide to match you with the best TV antenna.
