How Do I Set Up My DIRECTV Remote Control?

Need to set up your DIRECTV RC65X or RC65RX remote control?  Use this easy guide from Solid Signal to program your DIRECTV remote control.

Do you have a white RC65X or RC65RX remote control?  These devices are designed to operate a TV, AV receiver, DVD player, and any DIRECTV receiver made since 2003.  Whether you have to program these remote controls or not depends upon what DIRECTV receiver you use.  If you have one of DIRECTV’s newer receiver models, your RC65X or RC65RX remote control will be self-programming.  If you have an older DIRECTV receiver, you’ll have to program your remote control.  Let us walk you through this five-step plan to program your DIRECTV remote control.

Programming Your DIRECTV Remote for Legacy Receivers

There are many DIRECTV customers who still use older satellite receivers.  These viewers will have to program their DIRECTV RC65X or RC65RX remote controls in order to use them.  Fortunately, these remote controls are pre-programmed with hundreds of codes. DIRECTV legacy receivers all look different but often look something like this:

Self-Programming DIRECTV Remote

If you have an RC71 or later Genie remote, these devices are self-programming. When you activate a new receiver, you’ll be prompted to program the remote.  If you’re replacing a remote, press the Volume Up button on the new remote and it should pop up a prompt that asks you to program the remote.  Simply follow the step-by-step instructions on the screen.  All Genie DVRs and clients are self-programming. This also is true for DIRECTV’s H24, HR24, HR34, H25, and C31 receivers.  Don’t know your model number?  No problem.  You won’t have to worry about programming your remote control if your receiver has a flat front with one physical button or no physical buttons.
