Recent Review: Kent - Saline, Michigan, AL - 9/27/2019 It's a beast!
It's a beast! Kent - Saline, Michigan, AL - 9/27/2019 8:32:39 AM I love that this Antenna is made in the USA. It was easy to assemble, and once installed, with no pre-amp, I'm picking up 78 channels 36 miles away from Detroit! Also, including channels from Canada, and Toledo! Amazing! I would definitely recommend this Antenna, it's built like a tank, so I'm not worried about it falling apart for decades. Hope this helps.
Works beyond expectation. Cut that cable! - Massillon, OH - 8/27/2018 1:03:14 PM Our antenna is on a tower, 30ft in the air. Winegard LNA-200 pre-amp and channel master rotator. Pulls in stations from Cleveland, Steubenville, and Wheeling. Installed correctly as instructed, it WILL perform.
It's been 5 years now. This is the best bang for the buck. I'd do this all over again with some minor adjustments. kdoug - Holiday, FL - 7/14/2018 1:14:19 PM OTA signal is generated about 65 miles from me. There are 20 transmitters transmitting about 65 channels. I tried several antennas that were supposed to be long range, but could never quite get all of the channels. I saw this antenna and did my research and decided this was the best it was going to get. I purchased everything through this site and it cost a little over 200.00. I added the Pre Amplifier (AP-8700) because I was going to wire this to 4 televisions. My signal is strong. I love seeing the blades of grass on the football fields, so the HD is definitely HD. So I did everything right, so I thought. I also bought 5 of the 5 Ft. Swedged Antenna Mast (TB-0005). I checked it out when it got here and I thought okay, this looks pretty sturdy, so I buried the first one 4 feet into the ground and poured a couple bags of concrete around it. I'm thinking ok, this can survive a hurricane. Wrong. Hurricane Irma came along and a small branch 10ft long and about as big around as a nickle hit the mast propelled by 100 mph winds. It hit just under the antenna, and it bent the mast in half. So, after we got dug out and things calmed down, I went to Home Depot and picked up thick walled electrical conduit. 2 10 foot sections of 1 1/4 inch and connectors. I bought a pvc cap that will fit on top to keep the water out and siliconed that on. I cut the existing antenna pole about 5 feet off the ground and slid the new pole over the old one. I drilled a hole through all of the pipes and ran a bolt through so it won't spin. I love this antenna, and love being off the grid.
Good first impressions SWD - Portersville, PA - 10/11/2017 8:42:33 PM Installed this yesterday to replace an aging, damaged (weather, falling branches, etc.) and very similar Channel Master model w/ the same specs which is no longer available.
Using the same mast, rotor, preamp, cable, etc. and getting very good reception so far while the HD8200U is not currently in as favorable a position as the Channel Master was.
Construction is not as heavy as the CM antenna and we'll see how it holds up.
My first impression is that our reception is now a bit better than it was previously and when you live out in the sticks a little bit better can mean the difference between viewing something you want to watch, resorting to a program that you really don't like so much - or just turning the TV off.
No problem in putting it together Captn JAck - Moores Hill, IN - 7/17/2017 6:15:58 PM I have this antenna now over 2 two years. I installed on a 25ft boom with a HD Ham station rotor which I already had. Right off the bat I got 45 channels and it was only pointing North got another 30 when I turned it around to fine tune. Come to find out I really didn't need the rotor. Pointing it north get everything I need .No fade out one strong antenna. This this is 17ft. long.
Simply the best combo antenna TV tech - St clairsville, OH - 12/11/2016 4:42:48 PM The hd8200u is the king of extreme fringe reception when you need RF channels 2 thru 51 in one antenna
Despite what some want you to believe, gain takes boom length and this one is one of the longest ever made
WOW . . . ! Santa Claus - Cartersville, GA - 10/9/2016 10:21:58 AM 45 miles NW of downtown Atlanta GA. I receive 76 channels plus 27 low power specific market stations...amazing
The Best antenna available...especially in fringe areas Ed - Plainfield, CT - 10/9/2015 11:51:25 AM Pro's : - Outstanding reception with a pre-amp - fairly easy to assemble if you take your time and are familiar with antenna construction - seems to be solid, the double boom to resist sag is excellent - set it up and pulled in 30 channels...haven't even bothered to adjust the aim - picked up additional channels over the antenna it replaced - this antenna does what it claims
Con's : - not for novice antenna installers - it's big and awkward to handle...you've been warned - needs a sturdy mount to handle the weight and likely twist from wind - the balun box is cheap plastic and is the only part I have any concern over as far as longevity
Overall this is easily the best antenna I have used. If you have proper coax tools and know what your doing this antenna will provide great service.
Survived major wind storm 2015 - solid construction! NC Mountains, McDowell County Report #2 - WNC, NC - 6/7/2015 1:18:56 AM Several weeks ago, we had a very strong windstorm here. The wind toppled 2 huge 70+ ft tall, 50 year old pine trees in my yard. Plus other wind damage around my home. This antenna withstood hours of high wind, plus what I believe was a high powered storm cell that moved through my yard. NO PROBLEM! I will never return to pay TV again!
powerful reception guyt - enfield, CT - 1/28/2015 1:40:41 PM i bought this antenna about 6 yrs ago. i love it i pull stations in from surrounding states. i get 38 stations .unbelievable picture quality color depth is better than cable or satellite. it also picks up the dolby digital surround signal when its broadcast.i still have good reception even in the worst storms.i also bought a rotor but i fond that i really dont need to use it very often with this antenna.if you aim it properly in the first place this thing picks up stations from any direction.the only times i use the rotor is when ther is a storm on the remote stations and once for setup.some people recommend a preamp im not sure i can do much better but woul like to try only because i have a long run of cable from the antenna to the tv.i find that alot of people dont realize that the cable you use has to be capable of carrying enough information for hd broadcast .also a quad shield cable will keep interference out .you cant just use your old rg59 thats in your basement already.this thing is big but to tell you the truth i dont think anyone notices it until i mention it.the setup was easy .what else can i say great ,great product.
8200u is a GREAT antenna. NO problems after nearly a year on top of my home. NCmountains - McDowell County, NC - 12/7/2014 11:55:01 PM 8200u=CM7777 preamp + CM Rotator is a perfect combination! I';m receiving 40 +/- channels from multiple directions up to 115 miles away. My local Radio Sh*ck rep told me to forget trying this and cutting the cable, due to our mountainous terrain. Thanks for proving him wrong, Winegard! The size is large and frankly makes me chuckle - bigger IS BETTER when it comes to fringe reception, including low VHF. 2 of my major networks are on VHF, BTW. Thanks for steering me correctly on this purchase Solid Signal! Very happy.
More than I expected John - Clinton Corners, NY - 11/4/2014 5:38:28 PM I live on the outer fringe of broadcast towers that are in Albany NY and Hartford CT.(80-100 miles away) I installed this antenna because it looked like it was heavy duty and it is made in the USA. I am very happy with the result. I pull in all major networks plus many more in beautiful high definition. The picture is so much better than cable was, without the electricity sucking cable boxes. I installed this weingard with a pre-amp and a rotor at a height of 40 feet. It has been 6 months and it has survived a couple of nor-easters. At this point I am confident that the antenna will last for many years. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Chinese made rotator and pre-amp.
I';ve bought one of these units previously and it worked great. Very satisfied with reception and the ease of assembly. How great? I bought a second antenna for another location! David Bradshaw - Island, KY - 8/26/2014 12:26:35 PM If your in a marginal reception area or looking for excellent reception, this antenna is for you.
Great antenna! I have bought 3 of them. Ian the Installer - Mound City, KS - 8/18/2014 3:09:09 AM Best antenna I have ever owned. I use an antenna craft amplifier that works great and doesn';t get blown up by lightning the way others do.
Reviewer about "Who needs VHF" Bent Over - Grand Island, NE - 7/11/2014 2:27:58 AM Go to TVFool.com or AntennaPoint.com and dial in 68801 zip code. Every body is VHF except two stations. 60-70 mile range. Local ch5 KHAS in Hastings was bought out and the brilliant FCC rules and Grey Comm. cannot have two transmitters in the same market. Thus, the transmitter just north of Hastings is shut off. Look at the maps and see the brilliance and my frustrations.
Power Antenna Excellent Range Melain - Louisville , OH - 5/4/2014 6:29:26 PM I Install this 8200u with wingard pre amp 201 . They Both Work Flawless together . In my Area with out the Rotor on I received 52 channels . if had to correct one thing would be a bigger pre amp .to bring in those few stations that stutter .But with my rotor installed i picked up wheeling Cambridge Pittsburgh which added another 13 stations . my antenna only 30 foot high when antenna sat on the bare ground i received 17 channels .so you can see I played around with my installation .I bought antenna in January waited till this weekend when had my kids home had time to just do crazy experiment . only hitch was dropped pre amp off the roof aside from that we had good time .in close please get higher pre amp if in Louisville area Ohio we plan to change the pre amp but we have other need to tend to with double rail the antenna stays very firm in place laugh so strong i could move pole with out rotor on it Thank Solid Signal
Very clear picture without additional amplification. Mark P. - Davis, CA - 4/16/2014 2:20:17 PM I';m located about 35-50 miles from the cluster of antennas that serve this part of the Sacramento valley. I had tried using a 20+ year-old antenna on the roof that was from the previous owner, but although I got channels, the TV was prone to weather pixelation and sound interruption during rain and winds. I assembled the antenna carefully and with help from my son, placed the antenna on the existing mast. We aimed the antenna and I not only received a few more channels, but each one was very clear. This was definitely worth the money and we will save $700.00 this year and more next year. Free TV is the way to go!
Awesome antenna Grady - Canmer, KY - 3/6/2014 2:50:34 PM I just received this antenna from Solidsignal and installed it. I live in South Central Kentucky in a area that quite hilly. I must admit that I was skeptical about purchasing the antenna because after reviewing the map on the net about digital coverage in this area it didn';t look to promising. However I installed it on a 30ft piush up antenna ple along with the preamp from Solidsignal and was astounded at the signal that I received. The coverage map indicated that I would receive 9 channels at the most and only 3 moderate and the rest poorly. Wrong I receive a total 31 channel crystal clear from KY.TN. and IND. Absolutely amazed and thrilled with reception. I would strongly recommend the Winegard 8200U and the Winegard CB2130 preamp.
Heavy Duty Work Horse of Antennas Paul - Albion, PA - 1/12/2014 11:11:40 AM I installed this antenna along with the Winegard AP8275 Chromstar 2000 Series VHF/UHF Pre Amplifier (AP-8275) in the summer of 2011, it is now January 2014. I live near Lake Erie in PA. We get high winds, lots of snow and freezing rain. This antenna has taken everything mother nature has thrown at it and works like a champ. I live about 30 miles from the Erie stations and get all there stations in the worst weather 100%. I had a smaller antenna and when the weather acted up I would loose the digital stations. Not with this antenna. I would highly recommend this antenna and amplifier to everyone.
Great antenna! Unbelieveable reception! Allen R. - Roseboro, NC - 5/24/2013 7:25:37 PM Picks up crystal clear HD channels over 100 miles away from me down in Florence & Myrtle Beach, SC. I';m also using a Winegard AP8275 Chromstar 2000 Series VHF/UHF Pre Amplifier. I';m getting a total of 61 channels where I live here in NC. Good Bye Satellite! LOVE IT! ?
Great antenna. This is the one to get!! Mark - Hamlin, NY - 4/17/2013 8:56:13 PM Bought the HD-8200u bundle looking to get rid of over priced cable and I';m very happy with it. I live in Hamlin NY get 20 over the air channels without using a rotor and the picture quality is better than cable. I will add a rotor just to see how much more I can get. Thanks Solid Signal!

Alot of bang for the buck! Southern one - Flat Rock, Rock AL - 3/28/2013 I bought this product because I did not want to pay for cable or satlite. It works great picking up stations in 2 different cities. I like the picture that comes in very well. It was well worth the price that I paid for it.

Our place in Arizona 95 miles from Phoenix stations we get 30 channels. Its a great antennaand would recomend it just wish the assembly instructions were easier to follow.
Massive! SMack - Indiana, PA - 3/28/2013 Purchased this thing and it was a WHOPPER! Twice the size of the old antenna. If sized is a concern pre-measure!Seems to be pretty rugged. Was disappointed at first until I installed a Winegard AP8275 Chromstar 2000 Series VHF/UHF Pre Amplifier (AP-8275) and that made a world of difference.Im 70 miles from most of the stations and I dont need to even use the rotor on most days to bring in

Premium results from a premium antenna. Roger - Mount Airy, t Airy MD - 3/28/2013 I live roughly 35 miles from two major TV markets Baltimore and DC and needed an antenna with good directivity selectivity and gain to receive the many stations in several directions from my home. Awesome Antenna Reds - BethlehemPa., BethlehemPa. - 10/18/2011 installed antenna and the PRE-AMPHI-GAIN U/V US package-(AP_8275) with it picks up real clear Very pleased with the rsception its great.
A very good long-range antenna Bob - Sebring, FL - 9/7/2014 7:14:12 AM I';ve used this antenna a dozen or so times and I';m relatively happy with it. It seems to pull in channels up to 100 miles away as I think Winegard suggests. I won';t bother going into details such as trees, elevation and such that every installer should know about his area. I will mention that it is a highly directional antenna, which is good and bad. You should definitely have a rotor installed with it to get the optimum benefit .
More importantly are the reasons I only gave the antenna 4 stars. It';s touted as being "heavy-duty", but I';m not very impressed with the construction. The elements don';t really lock solidly into place. There';s way too much play in their seating. you have to do a lot of positioning to align them and then, of course, be VERY careful taking the antenna up the tower. Either way though, you know the elements won';t remain parallel after the first good wind.
The other problem I';ve got with the construction of the antenna are minor issues that make assembly very awkward. Holes that are punched to accept the bolts NEVER have the "chads" removed so you can';t put the sections together until you run a screwdriver inside to knock them off. And the elements are folded down in such an odd way it seems to make it a puzzle to unfold.
The HD-8200U uses a snap-in balun so you can start your run with co-ax which should be very convenient, but...like the rest of the construction, it fits together poorly and it';s difficult to be sure that it';s securely engaged. On one installation I had a bad balun which made for a VERY long and VERY bad day. Because of the way the antenna is constructed and packaged the box is too long to have an extra on the truck (it';s also too long for convenient storage as inventory). When I contacted Winegard, they were happy to send me another balun and expressed surprise that one was bad. Maybe this was just a fluke, but if a reader of this review is an installer, I strongly recommend buying an extra balun to keep on the truck!
If a home owner buys one of these antennas for himself, I';m sure he';ll overcome all these little annoyances and have great reception, but for an installer they become a real nuisance. Winegard makes a private label version of this antenna (adding an XL to the model no.) and it eliminates a few of my complaints...box size, balun, and directionality, I think. Plus it';s a little cheaper. I like that one better.
Antenna is built sturdy but the plastic box the coax cable screws into was hard to get snapped together (it seemed like it was not wanting to stay snapped together). I had to tape it together to make sure it would not come apart later. lone antenna user - Menifee 92584, CA - 11/6/2013 11:38:02 PM I live in a hilly area out in the country with some large trees(antenna is 40ft up). It is probably about 75 miles from Los Angeles and about 7o miles from San Diego. I use a Channel Master 0747 amplifier and a Channel Master antenna rotator. Channel`s 4 and 28 do not want to come in most of the time for some reason though they should be perfect (at times they do come in fine). I can pick up about 108 channels altogether from all directions with the rotator however many are not in english. Sometimes picture break up can be found on any station, but most of the time it is a great picture. I amazingly enough for a short time was able to pick up a station on analog channel 2 from Quebec Canada somehow in California, not a bad DXer apparently. Probably the antenna does about as good as to be expected in this deep fringe area.
good job Winegard RD - CorningArk, CorningArk - 3/28/2013 with a good install this antenna will do what it says it will and a little more reliable
WINEGARD HD8200U ANTENNA TIGER - HICKSVILLE, SVILLE NY - 3/28/2013 I LIVE ON LONG ISLAND NEAR NEW YORK CITY. I USED TO GET CHANNEL 4 BUT IT STOPPED AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW ANTENNA. SOME STATIONS APPEAR & DISAPPEAR BASED ON THE ANTENNA MOVEMENT DUE TO WIND. OVERALL IT IS O.K.
Very large well built RRTRACK - Land O Lakes, nd O Lakes W - 3/28/2013 Gets TV stations over 50 miles away but not over 90 miles. I have it on a 25 foot TV tower in a very tall wooded hilly area on the UP/Wisconsin border.

Great product would buy again.. Kman - CoatsNC, CoatsNC - 3/28/2013 Great reception have it on a tower 35 feet and get stations from next State aprox. 95 to 110 miles away.Very happy not paying a cable or satellite bill. I get about 36 channels not bad..

Heavy Duty Well Built Antenna but lacks the power it is suppose to have. Antenna TV Fan - Wheat State, KS - 1/26/2014 10:33:23 AM I installed this antenna and was disappointed with the results. I couldn';t receive the channels that I could with my old antenna with missing elements. Also, it is very big and bulky to handle. The box that snaps into place to connect the coax cable is hard to stay in place. This antenna isn';t for me as I thought it would be.
Does Not Reach As Far As Claimed Mark - Painter, VA - 3/28/2013 [...]Have it positioned 6 feet above the roof line and am 56 miles from broadcasting tower. I have the suggested amplifier. Signal is not reliable and can consitantly watch only 3 channels out of 7 we should receive according to the FCC. Therefore I do not think the range is as good as claimed on package. I recommend but for people closer to their broadcasting tower.
Wasted $116 bridge building - canton, ohio - 12/14/2012 I replaced an antenna that was over 20 years old with this one. Also I bought and installed a wineguard 8275 chromstar 2000 and new rg6 wire. The # of stations and quality of reception with the new system did not improve one bit over the old one I took down. Why go though the effort and expence to upgrade?!
