This is a great replacement for a failed TV tuner.

This is a great replacement for a failed TV tuner.
- Pueblo, CO -
I purchased my first one of these to fix a 24 Vizio TV in the bedroom. The TV's tuner forgot all its channels each time it was turned off. Rather than rescan channels each time I wanted to watch TV, I was faced with either replacing the TV or using an external tuner. For $35 it was much less expensive to get the CM-7003. I was very happy with the results.
Since then, I have purchased two more of these. One to replace the tuner in a 49 Toshiba TV (that had lost the ability to tune in the low VHS range) and the other to replace the tuner in a 55 Hisense TV (that had frequent audio dropouts when tuning 5.1 channels).
So far, all of my CM-7003 devices have performed flawlessly as external tuners. I have never used the DVR capabilities of this device.
Disappointing Channel Master product
- Central, VA -
I depend on deep fringe signals from stations over 70 miles away to get a good variety of programming, and I discovered years ago that a good converter box was better at pulling those stations in than my HD TV set by itself. After much roof-top trial and experimentation I now have what I consider the best antenna configuration available and that includes a Solid Signal HDB91X UHF antenna, a Channel Master Titan II model 7777 preamp, and a Channel Master rotor. So when this Channel Master DVR/Converter Box went on sale I decided to give it a try, hoping to upgrade my old converter box to a better one with HDMI output and recording capabilities. Unfortunately, the Channel Master box did not come close to matching the sensitivity of my old converter box so the more distant, weaker stations that I have been watching for years were completely unavailable with it. Just as disappointing and unexpected was the fact that this Channel Master box does not save previously scanned channels in its memory when you do a rescan, rendering it completely unsatisfactory for use if you depend on a rotor to get stations from multiple directions. I guess you get what you pay for but I really expected better engineering from a product with the Channel Master name on it. If all your OTA signals are from relatively strong stations in one direction you might find this box useful, but if you use a rotor, or if some of your channels have borderline signal strength, don't even bother with it.
