Wow! Now that's a signal! Chas - Cranford, NJ - 3/20/2016 1:47:13 PM I live about 22 miles west of New York City and although the UHF channels have awesome signal strength, channels 7, 11, and 13 are on high VHF and have much lower power levels. Reception of those 3 stations has been unreliable on previous combo antennas, especially in bad weather. My home is only one story, and is surrounded by a lot of tall trees. I mounted the antenna with a 10 foot mast on my chimney, and aimed it at 83 degrees to point exactly at the Empire State Building. I now have slamming 100 signal on all 3 of those high VHF channels and it stays that way even in wind and rain. The UHF performance is excellent too, with the same slamming 100 on every channel including the ones from 4 Times Square that is at 81 degrees. I was worried from reading some early reviews of this antenna regarding poor packaging, shipping damage, a faulty coax connector unit, and holes not lining up for assembly, etc. None of that happened to me. The box arrived in perfect condition the holes that didn’t line up for others are slotted now, so that is no longer a problem. The coax adapter was in a small box, snapped in place tightly and perfectly, and was not a problem either. Apparently these issues that had happened several years ago have been corrected in manufacturing. If high VHF reception is important in your area, this is the antenna you need to pull those channels in. Since the UHF is also great on this unit, you don’t have to make a compromise to solve your VHF issues.
Good value american made product linda - Auburn, WA - 9/18/2014 4:53:38 PM It can be tricky choosing the correct antenna. If Winegard makes one that fits your requirements, choose this brand. I called to find out the dimensions of the package for access information and they knew the right people in the shop to go check with. This is American manufacturing at its best, good design, good value, good customer service. I';m happy with my purchase.
Great antenna. I feel sorry for the cable company sdencar - Norman, OK - 1/11/2014 2:10:50 AM I';m no electronics or carpentry whiz. I wasn';t sure which antenna to get, and I had doubts I could install it on the roof without killing myself. I ended up deciding on a bigger antenna than I thought I really needed since I could get in my attic without damaging myself too much. I installed the HD7697P in my attic, which according to some reports cuts the reception distance in half. I am about 23-26 miles in a straight line from the Oklahoma City antenna farm. In case you want specifics, here';s the tvfool.com report for my area: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d5b949a9316f1ac This antenna, for my distance, is remarkable. I stuck it in the attic, aimed it with a wing and a prayer and I get 38 channels. I cut the cable service 16 months ago and my wife and I are constantly amazed at the quality of the picture and the variety of channels we get. It almost feels like we';re doing something illegal by getting what amounts to basic cable for free. Just tonight I hooked it up to the FM antenna jack on my new A/V receiver (which I paid for with the money I saved not paying for cable) and found out it gets FM radio signals like mad; just a ridiculous number of stations.
Exceptional Reception Ely - Livermore, CA - 10/8/2013 4:11:27 PM We live 35 miles and one mountain range away from our farthest signal. We get a full signal from the San Francisco (Sutro Tower) stations as well as full signals from San Jose and Oakland. A great product and great service.
Well packed and easy to assemble. All the parts were there and went together easily. Product shipped quickly. Manufacturer';s instructions easy to follow. Roger - Thurmont, MD - 7/11/2013 4:59:17 PM Installed at house that is about 40 miles to Baltimore (110 degrees), Washington is 42 miles (160 degrees) and Lancaster PA is 52 miles (050 degrees). All stations in those three cities come in clear. I installed this antenna with a pre-amplifier and a Channel Master rotor. I can get both Washington and Baltimore stations with the antenna pointed about half-way between the two (about 135 degrees). I have to move the antenna with the rotor to get Lancaster stations. HDTV reception is much better than our DirecTV setup. I considered getting a bigger antenna but local professionals said that this model was sufficient.
