RF Remote Compatibility: This remote will only control DIRECTV-branded (D, H, HR, R, C models) in RF mode. It will not control Sony, Hughes, Mitsubishi, RCA, Samsung or other models in RF mode. This remote will work in IR mode with HR44 and C41 receivers, but not in RF mode.

This remote operates on Infrared (IR) and Radio Frequency (RF)

Infrared remote controls uses patterns of light to control devices. Because they use light, they require a line of sight, and will NOT work through wall or floors. This is the standard technology for remote controls since the beginning.

Radio Frequency enabled remotes, unlike IR, can go through walls, and floors. They also work great for setups where one receiver is feeding multiple TVs.

This remote has the ability to switch between the two functions (IR/RF)

Q. Are these batteries rechargeable?
A. No, there arent any inputs for TV antenna because this is a wide band multiswitch.

Q. Will this enable me to operate both my DIRECTV receiver with one remote?
A. No, this remote can only be paired with one receiver at a time.

Q. We run two TVS off our receiver. Will this remote go through walls to control my receiver?
A. No, this remote is IR (infrared) which needs line of sight to operate. Try purchasing an RF remote if your receiver is compatible with it.

Q. Can this remote go through walls and floors?
A. Yes, if you are using this on an RF Enabled receiver (*HR20, *H20, H21 HR21, HR21PRO, HR22, H23, and HR23)

Q. How many devices can I control with this?
A. Four, including the DIRECTV receiver.

* These receivers require an RF antenna to use RF enabled remote. Other models listed have RF antenna built in.
