Borrowed a Solarcon 99 from a friend

The one I borrowed was a few years old. It had held up well although the fiberglass sections developed the fine fiberglass "threads" that get into your skin. Wearing gloves is recommended. The portability for remotes is a plus. The 3 sections are about 6 ft each. I put mine up more permanently on 2-10 foot mast sections and plan on leaving it there for the forseeable future. Contacted my friend (25 miles away) on 10 m last night, while only running 25 watts or so. Made contacts in Cuba and Brazil yesterday as band conditions were good. I'm new to the hobby but do my research on eHam net. The product gets good reviews while not using up hundreds of feet of yard space. No cutting/modding needed for 10m.

best antenna ever

I use to own one back in the 90's and always loved the range on these, I use to shoot skip and talk across the contry with a stock radio. I set it up on 30' pole off the top of my home and on a regular day could talk to people close to white pass on HWY 12 in Washington state and thats about 55 miles from yakima, wa.

The Solarcon A-99 is a 1/2 wave Antenna . anything over 20ft is a 5/8 wave .

I like them alot . good for Skip !
